Yacht Management has grown tremendously over the past 25 years as the number of superyachts has increased in number, size and complexity. Management was initially developed by large brokerage companies and it enabled owners to pass their traditional role to a dedicated company. Regulation now covers virtually every aspect of a superyacht's operation and the need for shore support is now far greater than ever which has allowed many small independent companies, dedicated to the running of one, or a small fleet of vessels to develop alongside the large brokerage houses. Yacht management companies today are expected to have a full knowledge of relevant superyacht regulations, flag states, tax, crew, salaries, chartering, health and safety, accounting etc etc. Yacht refit management and new build management skills are also necessary and it is worth noting that yacht management companies can be very useful to anybody wishing for independant advice when purchasing or chartering a yacht.
